The AEC organises the following congresses, meetings and seminars throughout the year:

  • Each year in November, the AEC Annual Congress takes place in a different country, during which representatives of all member institutions meet to discuss specific themes, to exchange information and to broaden their professional and personal networks. The AEC Annual Congress is also used as a platform to inform AEC members about the work done in the AEC projects and about the latest developments in higher education at European level. The annual General Assembly of AEC members is another important part of the annual congress, including the Information Forum. At the Annual Congress, which is normally visited by 220 – 250 participants from all over the world, the AEC provides simultaneous translation in English, French and German, reflecting the multi-lingual approach of the Association. In addition to plenary sessions, discussion groups and workshops, the AEC Congresses are famous for their musical components.

  • Another event organised by the AEC each year, is the Annual Meeting for International Relations Coordinators in European Conservatoires. The meeting is meant for administrative or teaching staff members in European conservatoires who deal with international relations and European programmes (such as ERASMUS), as well as for institutions not familiar with these programmes, but have an interest to become involved. The main language during the meeting is English.

  • In addition to the AEC annual meetings mentioned above, the AEC organises workshops and seminars on specific subjects. These subjects can be related to a specific European project or to a particular genre or topic in professional music training. An example of such an activity would be the AEC Pop and Jazz Platform, which assembles heads of departments and teachers in the field of pop and jazz to discuss subjects of mutual interest. Another AEC Early Music Platform has been set up as a very successful formula of the AEC Pop and Jazz Platform, which applies to early music education and is open to all AEC institutions with a profound interest in early music and provides programmes in early music education.
